HR 4040: Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act of 2008. Protect Your Business And Fight This!!!

14 01 2009

READ THIS LEGISLATION AND CONTACT YOUR CONGRESSMEN IMMEDIATELY!!!

HR 4040 is the Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act of 2008. From what I have heard, there are still a great deal of people that have no idea what this bill is about. HR 4040 is disgraceful and unfair piece of legislation that passed both houses of Congress almost unanimously and then quickly signed by our president. I cannot comprehend who in their right mind would think this regulation is good for anyone. This bill requires that all toys, articles of clothing, and even all inputs to clothing (buttons, string, etc.) to be individually tested for lead. OK, no one wants lead poisoning, but this is absolutely ridiculous! Lead in a button!!! Give me a break! A close relative of mine has her own children’s clothing line and recently checked into what it would cost to test ONE button for lead. The answer she received…$25.00 each! Yes, you read correctly, $25.00 to test ONE button for lead. A cost like this will drive any company out of business, small or large. Those in our government are either total idiots or they have an ulterior motive to bankrupt every small businesses they possibly can. I am fairly confident it is mostly the latter. Why our elected officials would want to do this to small businesses, I just do not know.

The bill is to take effect in February of this year, but must be stopped! Please send a letter to your Congressmen and Senators and insist they fight against this bill before it is put into effect. During this time of recession, our country cannot afford to put even more people out of work. Not only will this significantly increase unemployment, but it will bankrupt the businesses that many have worked so hard for over their entire lifetimes to build.

Another important point. If one does not follow this new law, they could face up to 5 years in prison and a fine!!! What a shame.
